History
In 1998, it was reported that restrooms in Singapore were rated the most unhygienic in the world. A good 70% of restrooms in Singapore coffee shops were listed by Singaporeans as unusable. The Restroom Association was formed that year.

RAS has been an active member of the World Toilet Organization since 2001 and follows the international standards of clean restrooms closely. RAS has also been an active organiser of the World Toilet Conference annually since 2001. RAS has been travelling to different Restroom conferences organized by other countries since 2002 to keep abreast with the latest restroom technologies and management around the world.

RAS has been working closely with the National Environmental Agency (NEA) since 2000 to upgrade restrooms in Singapore and improve its cleanliness and hygiene. It has also worked with NEA to create award winning campaigns. Three campaigns created were awarded the prestigious Ogilvy Ad Award for best campaign consecutively from 2002 to 2004. These campaigns saw an improvement in 50% of restrooms in Singapore. The campaigns were also commended by the World Toilet Organization. This is RAS and NEA’s fourth time working on a campaign together.
