From Secondary School to Poly: What’s changed? Article (school)
Change is always deemed to be scary to most. But in Republic Polytechnic (RP), these changes are beneficial and would definitely make your education here much more fun.
Amidst the obvious changes like the doing away with uniform, more independence and meeting new people, the most important one would be Problem Based Learning (PBL).

The PBL system was made so as to help student learn without the constant spoon feeding by their facilitators. It also provides a lot of hands on opportunities, which is said to help one learn more as compared to memorising from the books. The compulsory team work also helps students to improve the way they work with people and leadership, for some. The presentations too are a source of benefit for students. One can learn to gain confidence when speaking to a group and to prep them for their Profiling and Final Year Presentation.

Another new thing is the paperless environment in RP, which would mean more resources to retrieve research at the palm of your hand and doing a part for the environment. For the unorganised one, it would mean not having to lose sheets of assignments or notes.

Another way (or a few) that can help enrich students are the CE Talks available. Students can choose from talks related to their diploma and even on topics that they might be interested in. Some talks include hands on activities and bonding sessions with other students in the school. If talks are not to their liking, things like competitions, field trips and even lending a hand are available.

If you are the sports enthusiast or the artsy one who spent their time outside their secondary school attending practices and lessons, you can now do them all in school. With the wide range of Interest Groups (IGs- which is our name for Co-curricular Activities) from Dj-ing, Dragon Boating, Dancing, Volunteering and even Cos-playing, you can combine your past times and help contribute your talents to the school.
With all these fun and enriching activities to help educate all students, you might wonder why you never had opportunities like that in secondary school!
